Football Guy of the Week Nominees: CFB Week 14 and NFL Week 13

Last week, a man who literally couldn’t walk on the field by himself grinded out the Football Guy of the Week Award for persevering through adversity. Safe to say that is one way to claim the FGOW bragging rights. Let’s see what’s in store for this week’s nominees:

Michigan State CB Josh Butler for having both his dogs walk him out on the field for senior night after his parents passed away while he was in school.

There’s always room for a heartwarming story to take the spotlight when this award is up for grabs, and this one is right up there in the conversation for one of the best we’ve seen all fall long. Do yourself a favor and go watch it.

Georgia Tech HC Geoff Collins for doing pushups after his team recovered an onside kick.

There’s probably not much you can do when bowl eligibility is already out of the picture and all there is left to do for the Yellow Jackets is play one more game vs. their rival. Despite all that, Coach Collins does a good job here showing his excitement after his squad put some points up on the board.

Recurring guest Adam Schefter for spending five days passing a kidney stone and it passing 90 minutes before Ohio State-Michigan kicked off.

As a fellow Big J and big fan of Schefter, I have to respect the grit here. Being one of the best reporters in the game, there really is no time for rest when it’s your job to break news as quickly and accurately as possible. If “Pee Boy” didn’t tweet this, I’m not sure any of his loyal followers would have even noticed where he was stuck spending his Thanksgiving. He didn’t miss a beat, at least scrolling through his feed.

Virginia LB Zane Zandier for spelling “KILL” in eye black for UVA’s rivalry game vs. Virginia Tech.

As pure of a Football Guy as you’ll ever see. Virginia is ACC Coastal Champions, thanks to Zandier and the rest of the Wahoos taking down their rival Hokies in a thriller. Their ticket for reaching this milestone? A ticket to Charlotte to take on the defending champion Clemson Tigers in the ACC Championship game on Saturday.
